Description

The use of Benzodiazepines in the treatment of anxiety and other mental health disorders has led to disastrous consequences. Many patients in this population have found themselves with severe physiological dependence and worsened anxiety and depression. Tapering off benzodiazepines presents a tremendous amount of barriers. Rebound anxiety, panic attacks, increased risk of suicide. substance use disorders are just a few of the consequences once a patient has become physically dependent on these medications. It has also been quite difficult to find adequate long term care because many facilities are not equipped or willing to treat patients needing long term tapers to safely and effectively detox. Gallus Medical Services of Colorado, LLC is seeking approval to offer 4.0 continuing education credits to counselors. Please check our website for updates. The goals and learning objectives of this highly interactive workshop are: 1) Review the mechanisms of benzodiazepines. 2) Understand why sedatives are not a viable long-term treatment of anxiety related disorders. 3) Recognize the risks that this treatment pose to patients. 4) Discuss the path to recovery for this patient population and barriers to effective care.
