Wednesday September 21, 2022 to Friday September 23, 2020; 8:00 am - 4:00 pm daily. Day 1: Conservator and Cemetery Expert Robert Mosko of Mosko Cemetery Monument Services assisted by Robert Myers of Gravekeepers of Pennsylvania, will lead a full day of classroom instruction defining what a conservator is, identifying the different types of cemeteries and the various features that make them what they are, identifying the most common types, styles, designs, and construction of gravestones, and the most common conditions encountered within the hardscape, common causes and environmental factors. Other topics covered will include: how to recognize liability issues and concerns, common treatments such as cleaning methods and techniques, basic resetting methods, and documentation. Day 2: Summary, review, and hands-on field work applying what was learned in the classroom. Participants will identify and select a gravestone that is in actual need of conservation measures, document its condition, prepare a treatment plan, and carry out the approved treatment. Documentation of the treatment will be performed upon completion. Day 3: Completion of hands-on application and review of what was learned. The three day workshop is free to all participants, though seating is limited. This is an OSHA and 106 Compliant workshop that recognizes the Standards of 36 CFR Part 61 and is not intended for taking the place of the appropriate criteria necessary and required to be an actual qualified Conservator. There will be no promotion of any products that may be demonstrated or across the board recommendations for the treatment of broken, damaged, or unstable stones.
