Description

Join us for a workshop with artist-in-residence Sebastienne Mundheim, an interdisciplinary performance maker, to help create a new performance inspired by the story of social activist, self-taught engineer, and ark-builder Kea Tawana. Sebastienne will introduce the life and work of Kea Tawana, and invite you and others into her creation process. Over this three-day workshop, interdisciplinary performance-maker Sebastienne Mundheim will introduce methods for integrating objects and movement in storytelling. You will experiment with costumes, objects, sculptures, and puppets already created by Mundheim. You will also build new costumes, objects, and puppets, and will collaborate in creating sculptural environments for storytelling. These experiments will be beautiful in their own right and will contribute to the spring 2023 performance. This workshop series takes place 5 to 8:30 PM on Tuesday, Oct. 11 Wednesday, Oct. 12, and Thursday, Oct. 13. Workshops are limited to small groups. We encourage all levels of experience. You may register for as many of the three workshops as you like. If you do register for the three-day workshop, we hope that you will attend all sessions. Please note: There will be a short break for dinner. Participants may bring along a meal or make plans to pick one up nearby (there are limited dinner options in Frenchtown). Questions? Email [email protected] or call 908-996-5018. Sebastienne will introduce the life and work of Kea Tawana, and invite you and others into her creation process. Workshop intensives include prompt-based writing exercises and discussion, sculpture, costume, puppet, materials-based environment-building, and movement. We will explore storytelling methods, history, materials, and movement and contribute to the creation of the May 2023 performance celebrating the life and work of Kea Tawana. From the content generated in these workshops, we will create movement tableaus (or living pictures) and work with light, shadow, and sound discovering methods, materials, and meaning. These workshops are being offered to explore performance content, learn, build community, and have fun. Stay tuned for additional workshops in the spring.
