Description
in the 1800's the south was conservative...just as it is today. Lincoln, was a republican and very liberal. Had he been a conservative he would have never tried to free the slaves and upend all the southern states. It would have been contrary to his party's goals and he could have vetoed any bill from the opposing party. Lincoln was a progressive liberal as was the affiliation with the republican party at the time. Democrats, were the conservatives and as is the case today, they voted democrats into office. If the parties haven't changed platforms, then why does the south now consistently vote republicans into office? The definition of "Conservative" hasn't changed but the labels associated with political parties has. The KKK is a conservative organization. Why would a liberal party stand behind it?
