LOS GATOS, CA — Pro-Trump demonstrators holding a "Stop the Steal" rally in Los Gatos Saturday in support of the president's baseless claims about election fraud clashed with counter-protesters after the rally, police said.
The pro-Trump rally, held at Town Plaza between 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., drew a crowd of around 65 to 75 along with about eight to 10 counter-protesters and was itself peaceful, the Los Gatos Monte Sereno Police Department said in a statement.
Multiple calls reporting a large disturbance on North Santa Cruz Ave. and Greys Lane came in around an hour after the protest concluded, police said.
Officers from the Campbell Police Department and the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to assist local authorities, police said.
"Upon arrival, it was determined that a brief physical confrontation had occurred between a few remnants of the pro-Trump protest and another small group," The LGMSPD said in a statement.
"The confrontation had ended prior to Police arrival and the assistance by the outside agencies was not needed."
Officers interviewed witnesses and participants in the clash as part of an ongoing investigation into the incident, police said.
"Any potential law violations will be referred to the Office of the District Attorney for evaluation," police said in a statement.
