KMRE 102.3 FM, Bellingham’s oldest community radio station, has received approval from the FCC to broadcast with a more power signal, allowing their unique mix of local programming to reach beyond Whatcom County and into the greater Pacific Northwest.
To make this happen, KMRE will be holding a fundraiser to cover the costs of a new antenna, transmitter, and equipment to reach this broader audience.
The fundraiser, “Raise the Antenna & Pump Up the Volume”, will be held Saturday, October 22nd from 7PM to 10PM at the Syre Center (Whatcom Community College, 235 W. Kellogg Rd. Bellingham).
The event includes the live performance of an original radio drama written for this event. “The First Broadcast” is a historical comedy set in 1927 about the first radio station to ever broadcast in Bellingham.
Following the radio drama, there will be a concert from one of Bellingham's favorite rock bands--The Walrus, and a silent auction of vinyl records, rare posters, antique radios and other music-related items.
