We have booked three fantastic tours, and we’ll have you back with plenty of time to freshen up for our Saturday evening dinner hosted by Bill Ruprecht. Our first tour is at the Phillipsburg Manor and checks in at 10:15am We’ll have ample time to stretch, visit the facilities and have our first views of the manor before our 10:30am guided tour of the manor house and grist mill. Restored to 1750, the manor contains many 17th and 18th century furnishings, its own dairy, offices, bedrooms, parlor and warehouse rooms as well as frequent live demonstrations. When the tour is over we will go to the Philipsburg Manor Visitor Center which has a café for refreshments. For more information check out their website, https://hudsonvalley.org/historic-sites/philipsburg-manor/ . We will board the van at 12:30 for a short drive to the Old Dutch Church, https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/new-york/oldest-church-ny/ . The Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow is a 17th-century stone church located in the Historic Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. Founded around 1685, this is the church and churchyard that appear in Washington Irving’s short story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” We will be guests for the presentation and performance of “Hulda: The other legend of Sleepy Hollow,” about an 18th-century hero and healer who has become a Sleepy Hollow legend in her own right. We’ll see her presumed final resting place at the village’s Old Dutch Church burial ground as well. If you want more information on this tour here is a link, https://carlaandkeyes.com/hulda-sleepy-hollow-press-release/ . After the Legend of Hulda presentation we will have a picnic of prepared/catered bag lunches (you will have options available to choose closer to our tour time). We’ll finish our legendary visit to Sleepy Hollow with a tour of the home of the man behind the legend, Washington Irving, for a short tour of the house and grounds, which still contain family artifacts, the barn, and icehouse. The house's furnishings are family heirlooms that were bought by the Rockefeller family and returned to the house. A special exhibit highlights how the legend has lived in the imagination of popular culture through the centuries since its publication in the early 1800’s. For more information here is a link, https://hudsonvalley.org/events/home-of-the-legend/#info . The van will board for return at 4:15pm to shuttle back to the Port Chester in time to freshen up for our Saturday evening dinner hosted at Bill Ruprecht’s home @ 6pm. Itineraries will be handed out at the beginning of the fieldtrips for your convenience. The cost of the day is $90 (not including breakfast).
