About this event The Marcus Johnson Memorial Foundation would like to cordially invite you to participate in our 8th Annual 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament to be held Saturday, October 15th, 2022, in the Santa Rosa Bible Church Gymnasium (formerly RVC gym). The Foundation’s ongoing mission is to provide new basketball shoes of their choice to student-athletes in our community who are in need. The Foundation also supports and provides scholarships for local CYO and AAU basketball programs. As a non-profit organization, we are proud to say that the funds raised go directly to the causes listed above. The Tournament is open to all interested players from 3rd grade through 12th grade. We are expecting over 200 players, along with their families, friends and community partners who attend the event each year. Please join us in celebrating the student-athletes in our community, while supporting a great cause. About the Foundation – Marcus was an extremely thoughtful, caring and giving individual. He had a passion for basketball and basketball shoes. It is because of Marcus’ passion and his heart of gold, that the Marcus Johnson Memorial Foundation was established to keep his giving spirit alive. Eighth Annual Tournament Rules 1. Poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated. It is expected that all players and spectators demonstrate good sportsmanship at the tournament and during the games. This 3 on 3 tournament is a fundraiser and should be fun for all players and spectators. 2. Any swearing or belligerent behavior could result in the player being disqualified from the game or from the entire tournament. The Court Monitor will have this authority and discretion. 3. Players cannot play down a grade level. Players (or entire teams) may play up a grade level. 4. All games will be played for 10 minutes with a running clock. 5. Rock-paper-scissors will determine who gets the ball and to start the game. 6. On every change of possession (rebounds), the ball must be taken behind the three-point line. 7. All baskets are worth 1 point. Three-point shots are worth 2 points. 8. Foul shots get only one attempt. If the foul shot is made, it is worth 1 point. If a player gets 3 fouls in a game, they must sit out the remainder of that game. 9. Each team will have one 30 second time out but the clock will still run. No time outs will be allowed when there is 2 minutes or less remaining in the game. 10. If the score is tied after the 10-minute clock expires, only the players on the court are eligible to shoot. The team that makes one more free throw than the other, wins. If the score is still tied, then sudden death style. 11. No spectators or parents will be allowed to call or argue fouls. Court monitors will be the only person to call fouls, traveling, double dribbles or other penalties 12. Parents, participants and spectators - please show good sportsmanship!
