Join Sankofa Village Arkansas and The Urban Wildlife Haven as we share our grounding earth-based practices with you under the new moon. Participants will journey on a guided sensory plant walk where they will learn: The history, culture, and traditional medicinal properties of various plants along the trail. To identify plants that rather be left alone i.e. they are poisonousThe second half of the workshop will be a teachback of how to craft plant medicine, guided by the facilitators Kendra Danielle and Danielle M. Jones. We will meet in the parking lot at the Wildwood Parks nature notice/announcement board. Please text 501-500-4616 for more details about time and location of carpooling meet up. More about the facilitators Danielle M Jones (she/her) is a weaver of Sankofa Village Arkansas. Danielle’s background is in experiential and culturally-responsive nature education, mindful practices and equity work. Her work proudly draws on the legacy of earth-connection from her ancestors. She is a graduate of Wilbur D. Mills HS, holds a BA in Sociology and Environmental Studies from Rhodes College (Memphis, TN) as well as a Sustainable Food Systems Certificate and M.S. in Leadership for Sustainability Education from Portland State University in Oregon. Feel free to ask Danielle about Octavia Butler, her favorite Korean drama, or sustainable building! Kendra Danielle (she/her) is the Founder and Quilter of The Urban Wildlife Haven. A native of Little Rock, AR and a global nomad, Kendra is inspired by her desire to help heal the relationship between people and the natural environment. By trade she is a nature educator, farmer, apiarist, farm animal specialist, plant medicine apprentice, curator of healing spaces for Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) and artist. Her work aims to center the needs of underestimated communities' health and wholeness and to dismantle oppressive systems that divide communities and harm nature. She truly desires to carry on the traditions of her ancestors and quilt a more inclusive and caring society through her art and community work. Certified Nature Educator through the Cornell University Civic Ecology Lab.
