Description
In search of a narcoleptic horn player with a collection of homemade puppets, and/or a drummer with a gift for making intricate, microscopic floral arrangements (please take any of these words as metaphorically or as literally as you wish, especially the instrument part).
I'm Jesse (he/him), new to the area, 34 years old. I play keyboard and guitar and sing. Looking to play bars, house shows, things like this—more interested in contributing to local music community than making it big, but open to recording/touring too. Left to my own devices (limited technical chops, a regrettably nice voice, and a knack for complicated melodies), things tend to come out with a late 60s folk-influenced, dream ballad sort of feel (Robert Wyatt, Leonard Cohen, Kevin Ayers, Buffy St Marie, etc.), but I'm very keen to stretch my songs into other aesthetic territories. I would love your help, for example, making things more punk/postpunk (Nation of Ulysses, Joy Division, The Raincoats, The Gun Club); or country (Gram Parsons, Johnny Cash, John Prine); or Jazzy (Sun Ra, Mingus, Robert Wyatt, Karen Mantler); or garage-y (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCRYA6ck3x0); or dreamy/gazy/jangly (Cocteau Twins, Felt, The Feelies); and in general more sonically rich/experimental (Gamelan, Anadol, Mega Bog, Kate Le Bon, Arthur Russell, etc.). Sorry that's all over the place. Mostly just to say: I'm open to who you are and what you want to do. Maybe you hate capitalism? Maybe you practice magic? Maybe you like singing harmonies? Is this all too much to ask? On craigslist, moreover??
