Description
Dems didn't vote for Trump. The KKK has always been a conservative organization; however, Republicans and Democrats have not always shared the labels they hold today. Between the late 1800's and the mid 20th century, the Democratic party was conservative and the Republican party was liberal. This was also the era when the KKK held significant power in the south. During the transitionary period between WWI and WWII, Americans became unified on many issues and the lines between liberal and conservative ideas became blurred. Moving into the 1960's the parties had essentially flipped on their associations with conservative and liberal associations. That's why many republicans like to associate the KKK with Democrats but in actuality, the KKK has always been associated with conservatives.
