KANE COUNTY, IL — David Rickert resigned his position as Kane County treasurer Sunday amid growing calls from local lawmakers for him to pick one job after recently taking a second high-profile role in Winnebago County government, according to reports. Rickert ran in November to become Kane County's next board chairman but fell short to Democrat Corinne Pierog. That move came after a bipartisan group of local officials called for him to choose one of his two jobs and stop splitting his commitment to the residents of both counties. Rickert, the longest serving treasurer in Kane County's history, initially signaled his intent to resign the role, but later conversations between him and Pierog made it unclear if he would leave the office. "I'm supportive of (Rickert) either fishing or cutting bait," Republican board member Jim Martin told the Daily Herald. "There's got to be a choice between those two positions." Pierog must now appoint a new treasurer to fill the vacancy left by her former opponent for the board chairman's seat. Statutes require Pierog to replace Rickert with another Republican, who will hold the office for the next two years.
