With the Covid-19 pandemic waning, many organizations are reigniting stalled capital campaigns, or planning new ones. Yet the world has changed. Are your donors still in hiding? How can your organization tell a compelling story that breaks through the noise? What’s working these days? What’s attracting major capital appropriations from Federal, State, County, and City sources? What helps you grab the attention of major foundations in our region – particularly those who have an invitation-only policy? And, how do you identify and mobilize individual donors to step forward early in your campaign and create the momentum necessary to attract all the others? Join us as four well-established capital campaigners share some of their secrets of success. Come prepared to ask questions and share some secrets of your own! Our Presenters: Faaluaina (Lua) Prichard -- Exeuctive Director, Asia Pacific Cultural Center (APCC) Executive Director of the Asia Pacific Cultural Center (APCC) since May 2010, Faaluaina has been with APCC since early 1997. Faaluaina has over 30 years of nonprofit management experience. Her community works is very extensive. To name a few, she is Chair of the Asian Pacific Islander Coalition of Pierce County, council member of Washington State Environmental Justice Council, MultiCare Advisory Board, ARCORA Fluoridation Advisory Board, Pierce County Affordable Housing Consortium, Pierce County Arts & Culture Coalition, Tacoma Urban League, KBTC TV-Bates College, Commissioner on the Pierce County Arts Commission and the City of Lakewood Arts Commission, and Board Vice President of South Tacoma Business District Association. Faaluaina has been honored with many awards to include: Civil Rights Award from the Martin Luther King Community Association; Liberty Bell Award from Pierce County Bar Association; Lifetime Achievement Award from Asian Weekly Northwest; First Vanguard Award from Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs; Office of Chinese American Golden Circle Award for Leadership & Service; to name a few. Faaluaina is an individual with great passion to help others and she takes pride and joy in being a part of community development! Javier Womeldorff -- Associate Vice President of Major and Planned Giving, The Evergreen State College Javier is the Associate Vice President of Major and Planned Giving at The Evergreen State College. He previously served in various nonprofit and public positions including teaching, human resources, administration, and now fundraising primarily in education. He’s been in development the past nine years, starting as a one-person shop before moving into major and planned gifts. Equity and identity are important to Javier, and he’s led/facilitated various workshops. His interests include making the work of development more equitable, and he’s co-led policy work and workshops on race, and harassment. Javier is a current Board member and is a former Advancement Northwest mentee, learning under the Holy Unicorn, Michelle Johnson. Now he’s a mentor trying not to disillusion fundraisers about troublesome funders, events, and the Seahawks. Javier holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Western Washington University and a master’s degree in International Relations from University of Denver. Audrie Jones -- Development Director, eliseo Audrie is the Director of Development and raises funds for the eliseo foundation and resident care programs. A Texas native, she has worked with nonprofit organizations for the last nine years in Midland (West Texas) before moving to the Auburn area in Fall 2020. She spent six years as a newspaper reporter before starting a new career path in fundraising. In 2016, Audrie earned her CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) credential. Audrie enjoys getting to know donors and their families and connecting people with causes that matter to them. She’s been the lead fundraiser on three capital campaigns for smaller nonprofit organizations and has raised almost $10 million total for the campaigns. She enjoys getting to tell the story and purpose behind a project to engage donors and get them excited to give. Our Moderator: Jan F. Brazzell, PhD, ACFRE leads Advancement Consulting, founded in 2001 to help nonprofit leaders move their organizations forward. Jan specializes in strategic planning, board development, effective fundraising, and capital/endowment campaigns. She has advised more than 75 nonprofit organizations of all types and sizes throughout Western Washington. Previously, Jan served as Executive Director for the MultiCare Health Foundation; Vice President for Development and University Relations at Pacific Lutheran University; and Director of Corporate, Foundation and Group Support for the Franciscan Foundation for Health Care – all in Tacoma, Washington. In 2012, Jan became the 96th person worldwide to receive the distinguished Advanced Certified Fund Raising Executive (ACFRE) credential. She has taught Ethics in Nonprofit Leadership for the University of Washington Tacoma Professional Development Center each year since 2013. Past president of the City Club of Tacoma and an American Leadership Forum Senior Fellow (Class XVI), Jan has served on the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) International and South Sound Chapter Boards, and Chaired the AFP International Research Council. She’s an active member of Board Source, South Sound Planned Giving Council, and Rotary Club of Tacoma #8. She lives in Tacoma with her husband, Wolfgang Opitz, and their adorable kitty.
