This September at Wine a Little we are hosting a five course wine dinner paired with the wines of Penfold's Winery, based in Barossa, Australia.
Penfold's began in 1870, producing primarily clarets and rieslings. By 1920, Penfold's was producing 1/3 of all wine grown in the south of Australia. However, what really propelled Penfold's into fame was their Shiraz, specifically their Grange. Max Schubert, Penfold's first chief winemaker, was forced to get creative when the 1940s made wine trade with France rather impossible. Instead, Max used Shiraz, as well as American oak.
Initially the grange project as a whole was frowned upon, but Max persisted despite harsh criticism, and continued to experiment. Starting with the 1957 vintage, Grange began recieving the recognition it deserved, including recieving Wine Spectator's Red Wine of the Year award in 1995. Grange now is heralded as the most awarded red wine in the world.
For September's wine dinner, we will be featuring not only wines from their Australian vineyards, but their newly released Napa wines as well!
Dinner is held Wednesday, September 28th at 6:30. Food pairing menu is still in development, and will be added to the event notes when available.
Gratuity is not included in ticket price, please tip our staff graciously.
