THIS EVENT IS FOR CARDOZO STUDENTS ONLY -- Join the discussion in-person on Thursday, September 22 at 4:00 PM in room 1008. *** SUSHI, BEER, & WINE TO FOLLOW***Please join the Cardozo Environmental Law Society and Earth Law Center for 1 hour interactive panel discussion to hear about the various environmental legal programs in the NYC area and find out what Earth Law means to them. We are honored to welcome:Associate Dean & Executive Director of Environmental Law Programs at Pace Law, Jason J. Czarnezki Maria Antonia Tigre for the Sabin Center for Climate Change Law Director of Environmental Advocacy Clinic and Interim Director Environmental Justice Clinic at Vermont Law, Michael Harris Environmental Law and Justice Professor at Quinnipiac University, Carl Pavetto.Leading the discussion will be Anthony R. Zelle, General Counsel, Earth Law Center. ELC promotes law school students, faculty, deans, and practitioners interested in developing opportunities to practice and teach Earth law. Mr. Zelle is general counsel for the Earth Law Center (ELC). He served on the board for 6 years. He is lead editor and author of a unique law school coursebook that defines and explores the field of emerging ecocentric law. Earth Law: Emerging Ecocentric Law - A Guide for Practitioners, delineates the origins, legal concepts, threshold challenges, litigation strategies, legal frameworks, technical tools and practical skills of Earth law. Earth law is expressed in constitutional, statutory, common law, and customary law, as well as in treaties and other agreements both public and private. It includes rights of future generations, rights for nature, movement lawyering, Indigenous legalities and the development of a new ecological social contract. In this presentation, Mr. Zelle will engage panelists in a discussion of Earth law both as an extension of, and a radical departure from, environmental law as it is presently practiced. Discussion questions and topics will be distributed to panelists prior.
