Video Shows Hennepin County SWAT Team Execute Search Warrant

EDEN PRAIRIE, MN — The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Saturday released a video from a body camera that showed deputies during a "high-risk" court-ordered "knock and announce" search warrant at the last known address of Dolal Idd, the 23-year-old man shot and killed by Minneapolis police on Dec. 30. Idd lived in Eden Prairie. Sheriff David Hutchinson made the video available "to clarify what occurred during the execution of the search warrant," according to a news release: There are allegations that HCSO Deputies acted inappropriately, inhumanely, and with excessive force. Sheriff Hutchinson says the body-worn camera video tells a different story. Based on his viewing of the video, the Sheriff praised his Deputies for their professionalism and says they acted appropriately, respectfully, and followed HCSO procedure for high-risk warrants. Hutchinson said SWAT members helped with the BCA's search warrant because there was probable cause to believe guns were in the home. On Saturday just after 6 p.m., police shot and killed Idd during a traffic stop at a gas station parking lot on the 3500 block of Cedar Avenue South. Idd was a felony suspect, according to investigators. "Shots were exchanged between the suspect and the officers," according to the Minneapolis police department. "The suspect died at the scene." No officers were injured in the shooting. Protests quickly broke in the area as authorities tried to block off the scene to investigate. Chief Medaria Arradondo released a body-cam video from the shooting: The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the incident.
