GILROY, CA — A Gilroy man was injured while setting off illegal fireworks on New Year's Eve, The Gilroy Dispatch reports. Firefighters responded at around 11:15 p.m. to a call for medical assistance at a Church Street residence according to the report. The man, who is in his 40s, was lighting an M-80 when he "damaged his hand significantly," Gilroy Fire Chief Jim Wyatt told the news outlet.
