Description

LOS ANGELES, CA — A no-burn order was extended for yet another day Sunday for many Angelenos living in non-desert regions of the county. The order was extended to protect air quality as PM2.5 levels rose above the predicted level. Fine particles in wood smoke, also known as particulate matter or PM2.5, can get deep into the lungs and cause respiratory problems such as asthma. Wood burning is prohibited through 11:59 p.m. Monday for all those living in the South Coast Air Basin, including Orange County and non-desert portions of Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties, according to the South Coast Air Quality Management District. The order however, does not apply to mountain communities above 3,000 feet in elevation, the Coachella Valley or the high desert. City News Service contributed to this report.
