Exactly what kind of policy could the Republican Party enact that would make mining the minerals for lithium batteries “cleaner”????? Put people to work??? You mean doing work that’s worse than slave labor because those people have no other choice? These statements shown in the images are the stupidest things I’ve seen coming from an indoctrinated degree holder. (God I hope it’s only one idiot) And that’s saying something. I wouldn’t be insulting anyone’s “big brain” after those comments if I were you. So in little words even you might understand Here’s some actual facts that have absolutely nothing to do with politics or policies There’s nothing “clean” about these minerals. Put aside for a minute anything that has to do with the plants using coal, oil, nuclear, hydro etc to produce the actual batteries (which is almost exclusively done in foreign countries that republicans have no authority to make policy in) countries that don’t have labor laws or hazmat safety equipment/rules/regulations and the people actually pulling these minerals out of the ground are slowing dying from these toxins to bring in $1.50 a day to support their families…. Mining lithium and other rare earth minerals not only destroys the landscape, producing toxic tailings, it also generates large volumes of toxic and radioactive material, due to the co-extraction of thorium and uranium — radioactive metals which can cause problems for the environment and human health. An electric car requires six times the mineral inputs of a conventional car, and a wind plant requires nine times more minerals than a gas-fired plant. With current estimates, demand for REEs could increase six-fold by 2040. Lithium and cobalt demand could increase ten to twenty times by 2050 because of electric cars. Demand for dysprosium and neodymium is estimated to increase seven to twenty-six times over the next 25 years as a result of electric vehicles and wind turbines. But REEs also have grim prospects: the way companies extract REEs largely damages communities and contaminates surrounding areas. Just saying..,.
