The Penobscot County Democratic Committee is most pleased to invite you to the 6th John F. Kennedy Recognition Luncheon at the Penobscot Valley Country Club in Orono, ME. This occasion marks the 59th Anniversary of President Kennedy’s visit to the University of Maine campus on October 19, 1963.
On this memorable day, our beloved 35th President of the United States delivered a speech to an appreciative and enthusiastic audience comprised of University of Maine students, faculty, and administrators, as well as a substantial number of Maine citizens. On this occasion, President Kennedy also was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree, granted by the University of Maine. This was the last honorary degree that JFK ever received as was assassinated only 33 days later – on November 22, 1963.
In addition to paying homage to President Kennedy the event, we are very proud to be honoring three recipients who have made significant long-time contributions to the Democratic Party in our nation, in the State of Maine, and in Penobscot County:
