My name is Hector Lionel, I’m a classically trained singer, writer and multidisciplinary artist originally from San Juan Puerto Rico. My influences range from nostalgic crooners and torch singers like Piaf and Sinatra to contemporary synth pop, rock and blues. Prior to the pandemic my musical world centered around the idea of uniting the standards of the Great American Songbook with their Latin American counterpart, through a contemporary, queer filter in the context of the cabaret. Since then I have dedicated myself to fostering a musical community in Bushwick, curating house concerts and musical happenings featuring and collaborating with acts that ran the gamut from acoustic singer songwriters to punk and trap-metal bands. On the visual sphere, I’ve also directed and produced music videos for two of my releases during this time, and collaborated with friends for their art direction and styling.
At this time I’m looking to start band with an emphasis on genre-melding and experimentation, incorporating elements from art/progressive rock, 60s pop and psychedelia, French Yéyé and film music, as well Jazz, Latin and Classical standards which we would deconstruct into our own -yet to be defined- post-genre creation, and combine it with a striking visual presentation and Bushwick bohemian sensibilities.
Seeking a piano/synth player, drummer/percussionist, guitar player and bass player, but also open to string, brass, wind, drones, and pretty much every kind of instrument in the musical firmament.
If any of this appeals to you, reply with your socials and a couple of lines about yourself, or dm me at @hectorlionelcroons
