The community of St John’s in the Village includes citizens of Jamaica, Antigua & Barbuda, The Bahamas, Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Elizabeth II was Queen and Head of State of these and the other nine Commonwealth Realms and also Head of the Commonwealth of Nations. It is thus fitting that St John's should honor and celebrate her life the day before her State Funeral in Westminster Abbey. All are welcome, whether citizens of Commonwealth nations or otherwise.
This 11am Choral Eucharist features music written for Elizabeth II (for her wedding, her coronation, and other events). The service is led by the Reverend Graeme Napier (UK), who served for many years at at Westminster Abbey, and the Reverend Ryan Bennett (Australia).
It is followed by a drinks reception in the courtyard garden.
All is, of course, free but registration here is helpful for catering purposes.
Face-coverings should be worn indoors but are optional outdoors.
[There will also be a Requiem Eucharist for Elizabeth II, sung very simply to plainsong, at 6.30pm on Wednesday 14 September. No registration is necessary for this.]
