They rank fourth overall in yards per game. They are eleventh in points per game. In other words, the Vikings' offense has performed reasonably well, especially considering some of the issues on defense and special teams. The offense regularly had to confront poor field position, which certainly feeds into the discrepancy between their yards per game and points per game. In many ways, it's unfortunate if Kubiak steps down. His overall philosophy is one that Mike Zimmer wholeheartedly endorses. This hasn't always been the case. Norv Turner and John DeFilippo both ended their time due to differences in philosophy. Other OCs who have left – Pat Shurmur and Kevin Stefanski – did so because they were so successful they got a head coaching opportunity. There is some speculation that Klint Kubiak – who is currently the quarterback coach – might be promoted to try and maintain some continuity. At this point, though, it's impossible to know what Zimmer will choose. It's worth noting that Kirk Cousins has had an excellent year, as did Dalvin Cook and Justin Jefferson. Perhaps continuity would be a good thing. That being said, the most important thing is to get the right person for the job. If it's Lil'Kub, then so be it. If it isn't, then the hope is that Zimmer will recognize that and make the necessary moves to secure the right person. Never a dull moment, folks. Stay tuned.
