Description

We start in South Riverside (Near Martin Luther King High School) Head south-east, along many empty roads towards Perris Lake. Go up the hill then blast down the hill east, past the lake on a nice desolate roadway, then head north to Beumont, then through Yucaipa. Turn around and head back for a 80 mile ride. Or keep going! Make sure you have lots of water for the ride. More details. Did you notice the ride starts at 1am? You will need bike lights! Light yourself up! You need really good lights for bike riding at night. If you have not done bike rides at night, you should do them, many of them, before this ride!!! This is a full moon night but you must have lights!!! We have plenty of parking near the starting location. No admission costs, just donate to your local charity if you wish. I do plan on making something for those who show up - a little reminder of this bike ride. Live music. Yes, we are trying to have live music - to get us pumped up at 1am!! Let us go. Go go go pedal. Pedal night riders!!!! At start of route, you will find me near a table, a tent and some lights, setup on the shoulder of Lurin Road. 18870 Lurin Ave, Riverside CALIFORNIA is the address, it is the second house on the right. It is about 700 feet up from Wood road. You cant miss it. Wood Road and Lurin are the cross streets. You can park anywhere around there on the shoulder of the road, in front of the property. Or you can park inside the property. There are at least 19 car spots there in front of the house. By some act of God if more than 19 cars are there, well then, I have more parking on the property - and I will have the gate open so you can park on the property, if you wish. ** Text group messages*** Leave me your cell phone number before we leave! I will be adding everyones number to a group text chat. For fun! I will send a group text to everyone as we leave. You can then reply to that text chat to the whole group. . just for updates and for fun. You can text the entire group with your updates through the day. Why? Because we can and its fun. You dont have to do this. This is a long ride and we will have people that will take over 14 hours to get there. Keep each other motivated!! Let us have some fun while we do this. :) I'm off riding by 1:15 am or so, come by earlier like 12:30 if you want to say hi and talk a bit about the ride. I am going rain or shine. questions? call Rod 951 545 4269 Questions I have been asked: Can I ride a electric bike? Sure. Ride whatever you want. Do I need to sign a waiver? Yes. I will email you one to sign. Why do you leave a 1am? It is really hot this time of year. Avoid the heat if you can. Wait, you have ridden your bike at night, right? Then you know why we leave a 1am. Can I ride a shorter distance? Sure. U- Turn and head back whenever or go your own route. Choose your adventure. ******************************* ride route: ************************** start 18870 Lurin Ave, riverside california 92508 Head east on Lurin, until it stops at Barton, take a right at Barton. Go about a mile and then left on Nandina Ave. East on Nandina until you get to Clark street. Note there is one dog that likes to chase bicycles, he won't hurt you! The home owners out here leave their dogs loose it appears. Same dog chases me almost every time I go by here. Right on Clark and head south On Clark. take a left at Markham street. Go east on Markham, I suggest heading towards the market at 21700 Markham St, Perris, CA 92570, then past it and then go down the big hill to Harvill. The hill is steep ride and watch your speed. There is also a dog that has jumped in front of me while going down this hill! Watch your speed. The road ends at Harvil. Head south on Harvill Road, Then a left turn onto Romana Expressway. Going to go east on Ramona Expressway (to perris lake) but past the lake. Enjoy the speed rush on this one and no dogs to worry about out here. This place is desolate but great riding. There is a narrow bridge, nothing to worry about since there are no cars there at this time of night. You will go to the next waypoint: Lakeview Valero, 19560 LAKEVIEW Ave, Nuevo, CA 92567 (16 miles) next stop, now heading North. Take the 79 North (Lamb Canyon Road). If you are ok with dirt roads, you can head north on Davis street. Davis street is only 400 feet or so from the Lakeview Valero Store (gas station). Get to Yucaipa and return. Or keep going? I suggest taking Redlands Blvd through the canyon, at least on the way back. Stay safe!! Lessons: 1. From Nuevo, do not take Jack rabbit trail (Gilman Springs Road). This road is narrow, and has lots of traffic even at 3am. The shoulder where you ride - is horrible and has weeds growing into the shoulder. Apple maps will not tell you to take a bike on this road, for good reason. DO NOT TAKE THIS ROAD!!! 2. If you plan to go from Riverside to Yucaipa, it is a great ride. A great place to rest is the mountain stream in Mentone/Yucaipa past the ranger station. The stream is about .5 mile up the mountain from Forest service visitor center at 34701 Mill Creek Rd, Mentone, CA 92359 If you plan on going farther up the mountain like to Forest Falls, its really difficult after many hours of biking. Mill Creek road is safe with a big shoulder but the incline is strenuous to say the least. You will use up a lot of water going up the mountain and you can fill your water up at Mountain Home cabin (i have heard) or the Church camp (Loch Leven) has a hose. But even then, if you prepare to ride to Forest Falls, you may easily consume all your water before you get there. People have been known to have to use the stream water (filtered?) to get up the hill. 3. Take your time. This is not a race. Enjoy the scenery, stop and talk to people. Take some pictures. 4. If you start to run low on water -> STOP! Stop your bike and think about how you should continue your route, or should you turn around and head back to the nearest store? Find some shade, and take a deep breath, and think. Think - do you know the terrain ahead? Are you sure it is downhill? Do some thinking on how much water you will consume. Do not let your water get anywhere near empty! Think about your route. Are you heading up hill ? If yes, then u will continue to use water at a good pace, if so, consider your situation. It does no good to let your water levels run critically low
