Kitless experimental rock drummer rolls the dice

Description

Hello, everyone — I’m Kyle and I’m a 30-year-old drummer who is gladly back in Portland as of May. I realize this is a long shot, but…Is there anyone who has a drum kit and is looking for a drummer? The thing is that I had to drive over here in a two-door car and I have a cramped studio apartment with stacked storage bins to the heavens, so I don’t have a drum kit or even a place to set one. When I last lived here about 5 years ago there was at least one rehearsal place available where you could rent out a space and drum kit by the hour, but it looks like now that’s gone. I’ve been a drummer for about 15 years and have played live and recorded professionally in different alt-style rock bands in the past. I tend to gravitate towards the outer zones of rock, like the avant-garde (The Residents, Sun City Girls, Caroliner Rainbow), the instrumental post-rock stuff (Russian Circles, Pelican, The Fucking Champs, Don Caballero), 70’s kraut-rock (Neu!, Can, Amon Duul, Cromagnon), etc. Basically otherworldly/experimental stuff with a certain energy and power to it. But I don’t expect others to have the same taste per se, I know that’s a bit on the fringes. Bands I played with before probably would’ve been classed with a lot of harder-tinged indie or grunge, and I enjoyed being in them, so if you play that I think this could be worth a try! I have a tendency to up the tempo at points and do listen to many genres outside of rock as well as some metal and punk, but idiomatically what I do isn’t specifically either, if that makes sense. I’ve also in the past recorded jam sessions I’ve had with other people, edited together parts in the recording into arranged/“written” tracks, and released the results with due credit given to all involved. That doesn’t have to happen here, but it could. I’d be interested to try out an improv/jam rock band, really. Lastly, I have my own project where I edit together auto-chord keyboard sessions on Logic or sequence MIDI pieces. I’m not a skilled keyboardist, but that may be worth noting in case you ever want to go Residents mode or something, heh. Overall, whether you have a band or are looking to start one, you have a lot of experience or not, any gender, whatever -- if you like this and think it seems doable, go ahead and reach out to me. You can reach me by phone or e-mail. Thanks! -Kyle
