Fire Guts Buffalo Grove Home During 3-Hour Blaze

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The cause of a fire that did extensive damage to a single-family home in the 100 block of Golfview Terrace Tuesday is unknown. Four adults were in the home at the time of the fire but were able to get out safely and no injuries were reported, according to the Buffalo Grove Fire Department. The home is currently uninhabitable due to $250,000 in damages. Roads in the vicinity were closed for more than three hours as 14 different area fire departments battled the blaze. Police were initially at the scene at around 12:51 p.m. and reported seeing fire coming from the roof. Moments later, according to officials, firefighters and paramedics arrived as fire and heavy smoke was coming from the rear roof of the house. The fire then traveled through the attic, into the rear siding, the master bedroom, and to the upstairs bathroom. The fire department's alarm response was elevated at 12:55 p.m. This involved calling in members of the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System to assist with firefighting efforts. The fire caused Golfview Terrace to be closed between Raupp Boulevard and Buffalo Grove Road from just before 1 p.m. until 4:12 p.m., when the fire was finally extinguished. It destroyed a portion of the home's roof, caused extensive damage to the attic and all three upstairs bedrooms, in addition to a bathroom, according to officials. Water and smoke damage also occurred on the first floor and in the basement of the home. The house will be uninhabitable until it is inspected by the Buffalo Grove Building Division. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and remains under investigation. Stay Patched In!
