Renowned organist Wayne L. Wold will present a concert on the historic pipe organ in Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 7:00 pm at Melrose Memorial Hall, 590 Main Street, Melrose, MA.
The program will feature a varied repertoire including such classics as Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor and Widor's famous Toccata, transcriptions such as Bizet's Overture to Carmen and Barber's Adagio for Strings, Wold's own compositions, and a tribute to the soldiers and sailors to whom the hall is dedicated.
The organ in Memorial Hall was built by the Austin Organ Company of Hartford and completed in 1919. It contains over 4,100 pipes.
Wold is active in the American Guild of Organists and serves as the Regional Councillor of the AGO's Mid-Atlantic Region. He is certified as an Associate of the AGO and holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia. Currently he is Adjunct Associate Professor of Music and Director of the Church Music Institute at Shenandoah, College Organist and Professor Emeritus at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland, and Director of Music at First Lutheran Church in Ellicott City, Maryland. He has performed widely across the U.S. and Europe, has authored three books and numerous articles, and has composed over 400 published works for organ, choir, congregation, and other media.
