Description

Rose blooms took a beating this summer. What to do? How do we ensure that our roses make it through winter, much less lose the stresses they endured through summer? Be with us as we welcome back Dallas County Master Gardener speaker Fran Powell to answer these questions and help us prepare our roses for a better spring. To be the most successful with roses, one must start with establishing the best conditions for growing them: site and soil will be covered, as well as how to get started planting. Proper maintenance to keep roses must be addressed too, and organic pest and disease controls and common problems with some practical solutions will be included. And of course, how to prune. Deadheading and pruning correctly will be of utmost importance in order to have a good spring show. Thinking about planting roses? Make sure you're here for this free class. Get your soil ready and grow better roses with our Rose Project List Fran Powell is a certified Master Gardener, and joins us from the Dallas County Master Gardener Association. Fran’s love of gardening is shared by her mother and three sisters, an English family of gardeners. Fran admits to being a lazy and frugal gardener but loves the easy results of growing roses and perennials. In Addison, she has a zero-lot line home, where she manages to grow a variety of plants though challenged with small spaces between the houses and close proximity of brick walls. Educated in London, she received certification as a teacher specializing in the Montessori Method, but spent most of her career in the USA in the commercial real estate industry, first as the Arts Director for a major Atlanta developer, and later in the management of shopping centres. She retired a few years ago and now enjoys painting and photography as well as her garden. NOTE: THIS CLASS IS INDOORS IN OUR CLASSROOM. A TICKET IS REQUIRED TO GUARANTEE A SEAT.
