Description

“What kept me sane was knowing that things would change, and it was a question of keeping myself together until they did.” - Nina Simone You are invited to join this healing circle for people who have experienced, or are experiencing, racial trauma. This healing circle will include facilitator led discussion that will allow for validation of your feelings and that will guide you on different protective measures. There will also be a guided meditation focused on balancing your root, sacral, solar plexus, and crown chakras to aid you in feeling safe and secure. *Space is limited to 10 people* Cost: $15 ****************************** What is race based trauma? Racial trauma, or race-based traumatic stress (RBTS), refers to the mental and emotional injury caused by encounters with racial bias and ethnic discrimination, racism, and hate crimes. Similar to other forms of trauma, experiences with racial discrimination are associated with negative mental (e.g., depression, anxiety, hopelessness, violent behavior) and physical (e.g., hypertension, thickening and calcification of the arteries, and heart rate variability) health outcomes. What is a healing circle? Healing circles are deeply rooted in the traditional practices of indigenous people in North America. Healing circles take a variety of forms, but most basically, members "sit" in a circle to consider a problem or a question and gather together with a clear intention of healing. They are a safe and accepting environment in which to explore our healing. **************************** Meet Your Facilitator Vanessa is a long time resident of Manchester.
