The Driller’s Assistant position at CFTL supports the drill operator and is an essential part of the drill crew. This is an entry level position with drilling and equipment familiarity resulting in the opportunity to become a Drill Operator. The Driller’s Assistant helps or assists the Drill Operator with drill rig set-up, soil sampling procedures and maintenance of the drill rig. Work is outdoors in all weather conditions. The work is generally physically demanding and requires the ability to lift 50 pounds throughout the day. This position requires very limited overnight travel. DUTIES INCLUDE: Loading appropriate drilling sampling tools, equipment and supplies onto drill rig or support vehicle. Driving medium duty standard transmission trucks to various job sites. Assisting the Drill Operator with advancing and terminating soil borings. Perform preventative maintenance tasks as assigned by Drill Operator or Supervisor. Perform miscellaneous maintenance duties in field or shop as directed by Drill Operator or Supervisor. Mechanical ability to do minor repairs in field and shop. Conduct daily drill rig inspections. Knowledge and adherence of CFTL safety policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned. JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Class E Florida Driver’s License (min.) – acceptable driving record. Able to pass a Drug Free Screening test. Own transportation to and from CFTL facility. High School Diploma or GED. Welder, vehicle mechanic knowledge or experience helpful but not required. Construction/outdoor experience preferred.
