The workshop will cover preparing the garden for winter, cover crops, and mulching. We will demonstrate and practice various time-saving techniques to put you garden to rest that can produce food for humans while providing habitat for beneficial insects and wildlife over-the-winter. Preparing the winter garden with cover crops or mulches not only retains good soil quality, but also saves the gardener a massive amount of work preparing the site for spring planting. Join fellow gardeners for this free, informative workshop! ~Free cover crop seed mixture provided!~ This workshop will be offered twice: Central City 840 NE Eighth Ave., Gresham, OR - Sunday, September 11 4 - 5 PM Nadaka Park Garden 17500 NE Glisan St. Portland, OR - Tuesday, September 13 6-7PM - Register HERE.Spots will fill up fast, don't wait to register via Eventbrite! This workshop is funded by a grant from East Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District. Outgrowing Hunger is a local non-profit organization that builds and operates community farms and gardens for refugees, immigrants, and people who care about affordable access to real food in Portland and Gresham. Outgrowing Hunger is the contractor for the City of Gresham’s Community Gardens program. The East Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District (EMSWCD) is a unit of local government serving Northwest Oregon’s Multnomah County east of the Willamette River. Their work is geared toward keeping water clean, conserving water, and keeping soil healthy. The Gresham Community Gardens Program is offered to the public through the City of Gresham Parks and Recreation Department. Kindness Farm aims to care for people & Earth by regeneratively & sustainably growing nutrient-full vegetables & fruits; cultivating community education of balanced farming practices; & providing freshly harvested nutriments to houseless and low-income neighbors in need.
