On October 20, the Portland Parks Foundation, in partnership with Portland Parks & Recreation, invites members of the 200+ non-profit, volunteer, and grassroots groups devoted to stewarding and developing programs for and in individuals parks to the annual Fall Friends & Allies Summit. At this summit, community members will network, learn from each other, and dive deeper together into creating more equitable access to nature, play, health and places of connection. Summit Highlights: Keynote Presentation (12:15pm - 2:00pm): Dr. Terry Cross, citizen of the Seneca Nation andFounder and Senior Advisor of the National Indian Child Welfare Association, will speak about the intersection between the linear worldview of Western Culture and the relational worldview of Indigenous peoples and how the Relational Worldview Model of balance can be applied to organizations and communities, and the successes that come from a culturally based approach when working with specific communities. Workshops (2:30pm - 5:00pm): Trauma-Informed De-esclation Strategies For You and Your OrganizationEmpowering You to Submit That Grant Application(De)Constructing Org Culture: Weaving Empathy Into Equitable ActionAccessibility - it's more than ADAHappy Hour (5:00pm - 6:30pm): Connect in person with your peers, debrief your learnings and enjoy free food and beveragesDay of Service on Oct 14 & 15 (OPTIONAL ADD-ON): Join fellow community members for a morning or afternoon field workshop that combines learning with volunteerism. Friday, October 14 (1pm to 4pm) at Whitaker Ponds: Bird watching + English Ivy removal in partnership with Columbia Slough Watershed Council and Pamela Slaughter, People of Color OutdoorsSaturday, October 15 (9am - 12pm) at Leach Botanical Garden: Weird and Wondrous Garden Tour + Ivy Pulling in their Back 5 Community Habitat Enhancement Project Area.How to select a day of service and a workshop? When registering for the summit you will self select your breakout session. You can choose to add on a Day of Service location when registering. If you wish to change your selection, you must email Jessica Green at [email protected] no later than October 13. Transportation & Parking: A parking lot at the Kennedy School (5736 NE 33rd Ave, Portland, OR 97211), located off of NE Jessup Street, is available for free on a first come first serve basis. Street parking is also available. Bike racks and four racks for the orange Biketown bikes are available in the front of the building. For public transportation take the 70 or 72 to the nearest stop. These are free events that are open to anyone who supports Portland’s parks. We will provide food and drinks from McMenamins. Masks are optional, unless otherwise specified.
