Together in this workshop, we will learn how to design and construct our very own paper Mache masks, utilizing household upcycled materials such as cardboard, paper, aluminum foil, and paint! Artist, Sa-Rai Robinette, has designed three spooky mask patterns as a guide and will be there to help participants make their vision come to life. At the end of the workshop, each participant will have a finished mask of their own design to take home just in time for Halloween! This workshop is broken down into three days to allow time for materials to dry between steps. The agenda will be as follows; Day One 6 pm-9 pm (Oct. 24): Create a cardboard base structure: Participants will learn from design templates spooky patterns and instructions to cut out shapes from cardboard and hot glue the basic structure together. If time allows, sculpt with aluminum foil to add dimension to your mask. Day Two 6 pm-9 pm (Oct. 25): Add texture and dimension: Participants will continue adding aluminum foil and apply paper mache clay to create the finished texture. Day Three 6 pm-8 pm (Oct. 27): Decorate masks with paint and add your finishing touches! Pick up masks by Oct. 28th, just in time for Halloween festivities! Express your creativity during this workshop of the mask-making kind by registering below! Refreshments provided water, soda, tea, snack foods, and cold appetizers. Feel free to bring other snacks or drinks if you would like. This workshop is appropriate for ages 12 + however participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult chaperone. Please contact us with questions about youth participation. Sa-Rai Robinette is a multidisciplinary artist based out of Huntington, West Virginia. She is a collaborator, a printmaker, a video artist, a curator, and a bookmaker. She often utilizes masks within her video and performance work. Their Fly Noir series was featured in Collision Literary Magazine (cover, Pittsburgh, PA, 2018) They currently can be found performing as the masked host of TV Dinner, a local performance art/comedy group here in Huntington WV.
