Yoga Nidra means “yoga sleep” in Sanskrit and it is as old as the practice of yoga itself. Yoga nidra is a guided meditation practice that encompasses various body, breath and awareness techniques. It is said that one 45-minute session of Yoga Nidra is the equivalent of 3 hours sleep and can be done anytime of day.
During Yoga Nidra, the participant is in complete control of their experience and is simply guided to a restful state to reduce the heightened stress response in the body. This parasympathetic (rest and digest) response helps in recovery from injuries by increasing blood flow and decreasing muscle tension in the body, aids in alleviating symptoms of depression, anxiety, insomnia and provides and general sense of well-being.
During Yoga Nidra one is lying down, preferable on their back, for the duration of the session. It’s recommended to bring a yoga mat, cushions, blankets, maybe an eye pillow and anything that will provide comfort and support for the participant.
We will start our session by creating a personal intention for your practice. This intention will help plant seeds of change and healing in your personal journey. You will put your intention into practice in your Yoga Nidra experience.
