For anyone that has seen David perform it's no surprise that this album is brimming with heart, soul, and grit. With a busy touring and performance schedule on the front range & beyond, The Spoonful is thrilled to join Sugar Britches in Laporte at the iconic Swing Station, NoCo’s best Honky-Tonk. Their debut Album ‘Lean In’, produced by Banshee Tree frontman Thom LaFond, is a collection of Original music spanning the diverse genres that have influenced David throughout the years. From down home blues, to Roots Americana, touches of old school country and even his deep influence from gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt all shine through. The title track ‘Lean In’ is a song David wrote for his wife Yuko. It’s about young love, the butterflies you feel when you have to take a chance. You have to take that risk, and hope that when you lean in for that first kiss, that special person is going to Lean back. In a larger way, Lean In is about dealing with adversity in life and not running! It’s realizing that the best way to confront hard-times is head first. Becoming a new Father (this year!) and putting out a full length album is a test for David to Lean in to the challenges ahead of him. The album features Recording Engineer Jay Elliot, and Mastering guru, Kyle Vandy, & Album Art by Elias Armao from Dogged Line Design. It features tons of incredible artists and musicians! Coleman Smith from Rapidgrass is featured on fiddle, mandolin & helped with writing & arrangement, and even delivered some needed background vocals on Lean-in. Jon Wirtz on Organ, Gabe Mervine on Trumpet, Bonnie Culpepper on background vocals, and Gary Sloan & Bob Songster split the heavy lifting on the upright bass. Recent highlights for the band include recognition on The Colorado Sound’s Top 20 List of Colorado Artists for 2021 and an opening slot at the legendary Mishawaka Amphitheatre for Wynonna Judd. Sugar Britches also won Best New Band of 2018 and Best Country Band of 2019 from the Fort Collins Musicians Association and were nominated for Best Country Band of 2019 by the Denver Westword.
