RULES & PRINCIPLES GIVE ME THE BASICS - WHEN, WHERE, & HOW MUCH • X-HUNT will begin Friday, October 7th and end on Sunday, October 9th, 2022, in Bloomington, Indiana. • A top-scoring individual player and each member of the top-scoring team will receive a prize of a crisp $100 bill. • Three individual winners of Above & Beyond Awards will also receive prizes. • Players can join as individual or create a team of 2-4 people. • Players will register on our Eventbrite page. • Registration will be on a “Pay What You Want” scale ranging from $5-30. 100% of registration fees will be donated to BEACON, offering solutions for people in poverty . • At 10am on Friday October 7th the Challenge List will go live on the Goose Chase app and website. • All submissions must be received by 10pm on Sunday October 9th – the hunt is 60 hours long. • Winners will be announced on Friday, October 14th at 6pm. • All challenges can (and must!) be completed legally, following current health and safety guidelines and applicable laws. HOW DOES IT WORK? • It is essential that each individual player carefully reviews the Rules & Principles and Regulations. A legal Release is also required. • All players must be 18 years of age or older. Kids are welcome to help with permission of a parent or legal guardian. • Each player registers at the Eventbrite page and pays what they want to. • After registering, a game code will be sent to each player. • Each player downloads the Goose Chase app. • Each team needs a team leader. The leader creates the team in the Goose Chase app and invites their team members to join the team using a team code. • The challenges will be announced at 10am on October 7th in the Goose Chase app at the commencement of the hunt. • Each challenge will have a point value. Some are easier and some are harder. • Players will decide which challenges to complete. It’s unlikely that a team would finish every challenge successfully. • Teams can compete to win or play just for fun. • X-HUNT will post some challenges and clues throughout the game through messaging within the app, social media posts, or locations in town. • Teams earn points for completed challenges and the team with the most points wins. • Teams will submit their text, photo, or video using the Goose Chase app. • Entries that do not follow the Rules & Principles or Regulations will be disqualified. • All entries are the property of X-HUNT and can be used as desired. Once you submit your entry it becomes the property of X-HUNT. • Late entries will NOT be accepted. • Bonus points will be given for challenge entries that are exceptional. Points will be taken away from wrong entries or those that break the rules. Point tallies within the app are only preliminary. Many challenge entries will get additional or reduced points after the X-HUNT ends. Submission Reviewers will make the final decision on who wins. • The winning individual top-scorer and top-scoring team will be announced on Friday October 14th at 6pm. WHO CAN PLAY? All players must be 18 years of age or older. Kids are welcome to help with the permission of a parent or legal guardian. WHAT CAN I WIN? A Grand Prize, a crisp $100 bill will be awarded to the top-scoring individual and to each member of the top-scoring team. Submission Reviewers will create three Above & Beyond Awards for entries that tickle their fancy. They could be something like “Best Use of a Dog” or “Most Colorful”, but they won’t pick the categories until they see all the stunning submissions. Prizes will be $25 gift cards to local businesses related to the determined prize category. Prizes will be given to the three individuals who submitted the entries, not to all members of their teams. All Grand Prize and Above & Beyond Award winners will get Bragging Rights Certificates. HOW DO THE CHALLENGES WORK? First off, you gotta read the Rules & Principles and the Regulations. If players don’t ‘get it’, X-HUNT is gonna be a lot harder and less fun. Each challenge will specify the type of entry - text, photo, or video - and include the maximum points you can earn for each challenge. It sounds simple but it’s kinda tricky. If you get stumped trying to figure out what we are asking for, we did our job well. Some challenges should perplex teams. And before you ask – NO we will not clarify what we mean. If you ask, you will lose points. Figure it out or do another challenge. A little mystery and confusion are good for ya! Now, if the chaos monster has attacked, and you know an X-HUNT challenge is wrong or problematic (GASP!), yeah, please do let us know. Don’t get toooo loose interpreting the challenge. If we ask you to do, make, or find something, that is what we want. It may be tempting to pull out the photoshop, get cheeky, or interpret an item oddly. It will also likely result in zero points for that challenge. It is slightly possible we might like your creative reply enough to give you some points, but it won’t be many. Want folks to help you? That’s OK with us - kinda. Sometimes you might reach out for a loaner item or prop, maybe even a little help from people you know for a few questions. Your TEAM though is no more than four people. The team should be the one answering, creating, and finding almost all of your items. Delegating and outsourcing is for work – this is PLAY. Shadow team members (other than kids and pets) are a drag and water down the challenges. Teams shouldn’t pair up and share answers either – what’s the fun in that? You signed up. You and your team should be responsible for the vast majority of challenges. Remember, don’t be a jerk! Remember that, while you receive points right away in the app (the minimum possible points), all submissions will be individually reviewed and scored by Submission Reviewers. You’ll even get bonus points if your submissions are extra impressive! Did ya send in something crappy or wrong? Yep, you guessed it, our Reviewers can take away points, too. The final scores will be announced on Friday April 1st at 6pm. The Goose Chase app point tally is preliminary and does not distinguish between individuals and team scores. During X-Hunt, we may post updates on social media or via messaging within the Goose Chase app. Keep your eyes open for additional rules, challenges, and clues. Players are discouraged from posting any photos, questions, or answers about X-HUNT on social media until after the X-HUNT is over (unless it is specifically called for in a challenge). Only send one image for photo challenges (unless the challenge says otherwise). We don’t wanna see the process or different angles – just send the best. Video submissions should be edited down to 27 seconds or less. We just don’t have time for drawn out epics. Look good and don’t be half-assed. Seriously, take focused photos, spell check your replies, get a good angle in your video, and shoot in landscape mode. You did the item – show it off! Don’t waste a great item by taking a photo with a cluttered bathroom in the background. PRINCIPLES Don’t be a jerk. X-HUNT does not tolerate racism, sexism, homophobia, or any other attempt to put another person down because of something that they cannot change. Also, be cool, don’t hurt anyone in any way - including yourself. The X-HUNT team doesn't need or want any BS either. Got a beef? Grill it up and eat it. Be kind - it’s more fun to be so, too. Oh, and hey, it shouldn’t have to be said but um, don’t break the law either. Jerks, bigots, abusers, and law breakers may (and likely will) be disqualified from winning. Further, if you break a rule or principle your team may be disqualified from any prizes. Follow COVID-19 safety precautions. Don’t put your health or the health of others at risk for a silly scavenger hunt. Everything has risks. So does X-HUNT. We have done our best to keep things safe, and think it is highly unlikely you will get hurt. Yet the risk of injury, COVID-19 or other illnesses, disability, or death are always possible. Be smart and be safe! Join us!
