16 September, 2022

Description

University of Houston Industrial Design students have been challenged to design and build their own flat-packable, cardboard personal watercrafts which have to cross 75 ft (width of Rec Center Pool) of water while fully supporting their body weight. Only a maximum of 3 sheets of 4x8' corrugated, c-flute cardboard is allowed- no tape, fasteners, or adhesives. Even their paddles can only be made out of cardboard. We are focusing on more sustainable and eco-friendly solutions where the watercrafts will be recycled or composted after the Regatta. There will be competitions in the following categories: 1. Fastest 2. Lightest 3. Fastest to Assemble (from flat-packed state) 4. Most Aesthetically Pleasing 5. Most Style/Flair You will need to have a UH Rec Center membership or a guest pass to enter the main pool (Natatorium). Otherwise, you can watch from the main viewing windows inside the Rec Center. Please come out, support us, and enjoy the event!
