Press release from the City of Carlsbad: December 30, 2020 Managing stress and staying fit will no doubt top many New Year's resolution lists. With 2021 only moments away, the City of Carlsbad is here to help with both those needs. We will continue to provide both virtual and reduced capacity, in-person classes for youth and adults. Fitness and outdoor activities Ecological adventures class This weekly class is designed to support families by providing kids ages 7 to 15 years with outdoor activities after spending a long day in their virtual classrooms. Supervised activities include hikes, nature walks, environmental projects, exploration and live animals all in the beautiful and tranquil setting of Leo Carrillo Ranch. This class meets weekly on Wednesdays or Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. beginning Jan. 13 for a four-week period. Virtual family yoga Embark on a family yoga adventure! Virtual family yoga will have you stretching and moving together as you learn fun animal poses, sing yoga songs and explore partner poses. At the end of class relax side by side with a relaxation story. Class is geared towards families with young children. This class meets weekly on Fridays from 10 to 10:45 a.m. beginning Jan. 15 for a four-week period. Aquatics City of Carlsbad pools are open for lap swim, recreation swim, private swimming lessons and water fitness. All activities will be a modified and/or in a reduced-capacity format necessary to uphold guidelines set by the County of San Diego. Registration is required. No drop-ins. City trails The City of Carlsbad has approximately 67 miles of trails, supporting a healthy active lifestyle while protecting and preserving open space for residents to enjoy. The citywide trail systems include trails perfect for an easy scenic stroll, a challenging hike, mountain biking and beautiful views. Many trails also provide connections from neighborhoods to shops and local services. Fitness for older adults Virtual yoga and Pilates classes Join us on Zoom to create a union of body, mind and spirit as you practice basic yoga poses and strengthen your core. 24K Zumba gold on Zoom Cha cha, salsa, merengue and swing are just some of the infectious rhythms that will get you moving your feet, clapping your hands and swinging your hips! Aging Creatively dance class videosSan Diego Dance Theater presents a series of four 45-minute classes that provide an enriching opportunity for seniors to share the joy of movement, while enhancing the health and well-being of each individual. Gentle dance movements promote strength, agility, coordination, balance and mental clarity and are designed for moving bodies 55+ years of age. Wellness and Stress management Join Shazia Gogia, a yoga teacher, yoga therapist, ayurvedic practitioner and ayurvedic chef for free, virtual on-demand yoga, breathwork and meditation classes. Mindfulessness & meditations for managing stress and anxiety This workshop will explore meditation and mindfulness techniques for calming the mind, pranayama (breath-work) centered meditation, practices for mood management and more. Breathwork for stress managementExplore the physical and emotional health benefits from breathwork. We will learn and practice together a few different breathing techniques to reduce stress and anxiety. Gentle Hatha yoga Enjoy this low intensity, gentle and therapeutic Hatha yoga class with many modifications offered. Ideal for beginners, seniors, people with physical limitations and for those who enjoy a slower paced, well-balanced class. Chair yoga Enjoy this very gentle practice that focuses on aging issues: stiffness, pain in joints, tightness in hips, balance issues, etc. A safe and nurturing class for seniors, anyone recovering from surgery or knee or other injuries, or with physical and mobility limitations.
