I put in my old childhood address on Google Maps today. The home I grew up in as a child is now a 3-way intersection of Pacific Crest Dr and Glen Forest Lane. I have photos of this very spot before the COS development took over. My dad bought the property back in (the 80s?) expecting this to happen... he was a few years early. ;) Rumor has it the home was foreclosed because of some ID 10 T's that bought it and turned it into a meth lab. I feel for the folks who used to frequent Kit Carson Riding Club. When was the last time the loudspeakers blared a competition with all of the homes near by? I imagine such a noise violation today would be... unnerving. I really miss those days listening to the broadcasters of the club talking about the horses that were racing barrels, or whatever other event was going on. It was a magical place even before the homes invaded. I had an odd memory of taking those old CO2 canisters for soda out back and trying to glean what I could from them. haha. When you're exploring like that, finding something as good as soda for free... even warm. You folks don't know how good you have it, even those of you on the east side of BFR where the flood plain is (get flood insurance NOW if you haven't yet, please...) have a massive history here and you don't know it yet. If anyone else remembers the rocks and the lone tree that stood across from Kit Carson Riding Club before the development moved in, I would love to trade stories with you sometime. Is it odd that I'm only 41? :P
