Description

Wainscott Heritage Project and Build.In.Kind/East Hampton present One Big Home, a film by Thomas Bena that documents how citizens of Chilmark Town on Martha’s Vineyard came together and passed changes to their bylaws that limited house size in order to respect and protect the history, character, environment and quality of life of their community. The film screening will be followed by a Panel Discussion and Q&A with Thomas Bena and Special Guests. This is event is made possible with the additional support and sponsorship of Our Hamptons Podcast, Irwin T. Levy, LTV Studios, and Jaine Mehring (list in formation). Trading in his toolbelt for a video camera, Thomas Bena engaged his community through listening and debate, built a consensus, and created a coalition of individuals committed to realizing more thoughtful house size and land use practices that respected and protected their town’s history, character, quality of life, affordability, and environment, while sustaining a vibrant economy. Though a deeply “local” and personal story, One Big Home resonates broadly, here in East Hampton and beyond. It’s a testament to how the active engagement of citizens can achieve constructive change.
