WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: Barry is BACK with a NEW workshop! Integrating Drama and Storytelling with Math may seem the unlikeliest of endeavors, but there are key alignments between the art forms and the core discipline. Utilizing the strengths of drama and storytelling practices, we can help students gain a full body and emotionally-connected understanding of a variety of complex and often abstract mathematical concepts. Learn how implementing drama and storytelling strategies such as characterization, hot seating, vocal expression, story enactment, and improvisation will deepen your students' mathematical understanding of such concepts as place value, fractions, number lines, geometric figures, and more. This will be a fun, engaging, hands-on workshop from which you will leave with activities and strategies you can start using in your classroom the very next day, and a terrific listing of stories, picture books, and story collections to tap as you continue your journey integrating Math with Drama and Storytelling.
