There is nothing wrong with giving a dog away free. I have a free dog from Craigslist. When I tried to get her in the truck, the day after I brought her home, she put up a so much of a fight that I gave up - I finally realized that she thought I was going to take her back where I got her, and she didn't want to go. After 2 years of re-training, she still isn't the perfect dog but she is 90% better than when I got her. The ads that bother me are the ones where people are asking for money for the dog they no longer want but, also don't want to drop off at a shelter. They should be offering money to someone who is willing to give the dog a better life. Most rescues, charge more than the county shelters. Some of them charge more for older dogs than pet stores charge for puppies.
