Presented by The Hiddenite Arts and Heritage Center, The Celebration of The Arts takes place on the fourth Saturday in September annually since 1981 in the quaint town of Hiddenite, North Carolina, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The free festival celebrates the culture and heritage of the Appalachian Region with period music, folk artists, craftspeople and hands-on demonstrations that preserve traditional folk art and folk ways essential to survival of early settlers. Arts & Crafts vendors will line Hiddenite Church Rd in front of the Lucas Mansion and Educational Complex as the street comes alive on September 24th. Performances on 4 stages presenting dance and music will include Ulysses Long from Statesville and runner up on America's Got Talent at 3 pm on the Gazebo Stage. Appalachian State University Stage will host the ever popular Steely Pan Drum Band, DIYE' African Drumming & Dance, the App State Geo Bus, and Art Bus... all taking place on the Appalachian State University Stage at Hiddenite Baptist Church! The Gospel Stage at Hiddenite Methodist Church will host some of our favorite local gospel groups! The Folk Life Pavilion will be filled with Living History Demonstrations such as spinning, weaving, antique sawmill and tractors, open fire cooking, herbal gardening shingle making, blacksmithing, soap making, and much more! The Folk Life Stage will host Native American Dance, Modern Latin Raza Dance Group, period music and more! The Stitch In Time Vintage Quilt Exhibit on loan from Wilkes Heritage Museum will be on display in the Educational Complex Ballroom serving as a cooling station. Gem sluicing for the kids, giant slide, a living storybook, art in action, and more will be hosted at the Kid's Korner adjacent to the Lucas Mansion which will be open for Artist Chris Parsons Meet and Greet in the Art Gallery, museum tours in the 1914's House Museum & Home to Diamond Jim Lucas, Alexander County Visitor's Center and Artist Gift Shop. Handicap Parking at Hiddenite Baptist Church and shuttles by Greenway from Designated Parking Areas will be available.
