UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — The Museum of the City of New York will be forced to close for about a month starting next week to repair its building following a plumbing problem, the museum announced Tuesday. "Unfortunately, due to a plumbing malfunction that has impacted multiple floors, but which thankfully did not affect any collections objects or loans, the Museum will need to close for necessary building repairs beginning on Monday, January 11," museum president and director Whitney W. Donhauser wrote in an email. No art or artifacts were damaged, and the repairs are expected to wrap up in mid-February, Donhauser said. The museum, on Fifth Avenue between East 103rd and 104th streets, will remain open Thursday through the coming weekend from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Current exhibitions include "New York Responds: The First Six Months," which examines the "still-unfolding events of 2020 through the eyes of over 100 New Yorkers." It is also available online. The Museum of the City of New York reopened in late August after the pandemic shut down all of the city's museums for five months.
