Summary Plants, fertilizes, applies chemicals, performs diagnosis on plant problems and trees, treats, and prunes all woody and herbaceous plants. Implements detailed landscape plans on caring for property. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Plants, transplants, fertilizes, applies chemicals, prunes, weeds flower beds and plant areas. Maintains flowers, bushes, trees, and shrubs 2. Works with landscaper to oversee mowing, tree management, arbor care, tree fertilization, lawn overseeding and pre-emergent 3. Works with irrigation tech to ensure proper watering and make simple repairs as guided by irrigation tech 4. Recognizes disease and insect problems of woody and herbaceous plants and performs pest control operations. 5. Maintains pesticide application records, and other records as assigned. 6. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. 7. Rakes, weeds and blows debris. 8. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Minimum Job Requirements • High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. • Minimum 3 years’ experience in progressive responsibilities working in landscaping environment. • Three current references. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required • Knowledge and experience in horticulture methods and materials, landscaping and cultivation of trees, woody plants, techniques and equipment • A love for the outdoors and plant life • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures. • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade. • Ability to perform grounds maintenance tasks. • Knowledge of fertilizer and/or local pesticide applications. • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures. • Ability to foster a teamwork environment. • Ability to use a computer. • Positive attitude in a team environment Conditions of Employment • Possession of a clean valid Arizona driver's license. • Certification/Licensure: State of Arizona Pesticide License in Ornamental and Turf Pest Control, category 3 ornamental & turf obtained within 6 months of hire. • Ongoing training in learning Baseline irrigation and arbor care • Baseline Irrigation certification within 1 year of hire. Working Conditions and Physical Effort • Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, chemicals, dirt, dust, fumes, and/or loud noises. • Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds.
