All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt. Jan. 1: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) was reported at Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove at 7:15 p.m. Someone stole a woman's credit card out of an ATM at an eatery when she wasn't paying attention, police said. The person then made charges with the card, police said.Dec. 27, 2020: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Grandview Lane in Smithtown from Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. A woman received a popup message on her computer with a phone number, police said. She called the phone number, and the person on the other end convinced the woman to buy multiple Lowes gift cards worth thousands of dollars, police said. The woman gave the security numbers on the back of the card to the caller, police said.Dec. 27, 2020: Criminal mischief (fourth-degree) was reported on Route 25A in Smithtown at 4 p.m. A woman parked her 2020 Nissan in a lot, police said. When she returned, she found somebody had used a sharp object to scratch the front-right corner panel and the front passenger door, police said.
