Are you expected to help people in crisis or struggling to cope with lifes challenges?Learn how to comfortably and competently work with those who are feeling desperate, hopeless, and thinking of suicide. ASIST is an evidence-based 2-day intensive and interactive workshop designed to builds skills in de-escalating a suicidal situation and building a safety plan. Conversations with those at risk of suicide require skill and collaboration. Safety plans are critical to keeping those at risk of suicide safe in case mental health services are delayed or not obtained. At ASIST you will learn how to engage someone who is thinking of suicide, apply a structured suicide intervention model, and collaboratively develop a safe plan with the person who is at risk of suicide.  In any given year, 14 million people experience suicidal thoughts--more than will experience symptoms of a heart attack. Just as "CPR" skills make physical first aid possible, training in suicide first aid helps by de-escalating a suicide situation and getting the person at risk the help that they need. Participants must attend both days - Oct 24th & 25th, 8:30am - 4:30pm Location: Peggy F.
