With many high elevation Alpine vineyards and the impact of both mountain ranges and important rivers like the Danube, Austrian wine shares some qualities with neighboring Germany and Northern Italy, but also makes its own mark on the world of wines. While white wines from varietals like Riesling and Gruner Veltliner tend to represent most people's exposure to Austrian wine, there are also interesting wines being made from red varietals like Zweigelt and St. Laurent, as well as interesting natural and sparkling wines as well. If you are already of fan of Austrian wine and some of these varietals, or just want to learn more about what this great European country has to offer in the world of wine, this will be an excellent class to get exposed to Austrian wine.
