TROY, MI. (September 7, 2022) – Say the words “video game” and your kids are bound to stop and listen. The local owners of a new Code Ninjas know that video games aren’t only fun, but can be educational too! The kid-focused coding education center officially debuts September 10 with a Grand Opening ceremony at 2885 W Maple in Troy, MI. Code Ninjas offers a robust, game-based curriculum made up of nine belts, just like martial arts. The curriculum takes a Montessori-like approach and is self-paced, not self-taught; kids get immediate help and encouragement from Code Senseis and fellow students as they advance from white to black belt. The program keeps kids motivated with little wins along the way, and “Belt-Up” celebrations where they receive color-coded wristbands to mark their graduation to the next level. By the time a child finishes the program, they will have created their own video game from scratch and can even publish an app in an app store! Parents are kept informed of the progress every step of the way through the Parent Dojo where they can play the lesson games their children created. To celebrate the grand opening of the new Code Ninjas, the Troy location will be hosting an event on Saturday, September 10 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The event will include food, drinks and free game building sessions, as well as games and prizes. Families who sign up for Code Ninjas at the event are eligible to receive half-off their first month along with Code Ninjas merchandise and a free entry to win the Grand Prize. The grand prize features a Back-to-School gift basket including: $250 worth of school supplies and a $100 contribution to their local school’s PTA or PTO. The Troy location is owned and operated by local Berkley High School graduate and entrepreneur, Michelle Brown. Michelle, regional sales manager and mother of four, always dreamed of opening a children-focused business with her late husband. She discovered Code Ninjas when she was researching coding classes for her then-9-year-old son. At the time, he was unhappy with the coding course he was involved in because of the lack of individual advancement within the class. If his peers did not complete their assignments, instructors would spend the duration of class time catching those students up, which caused Michelle’s son to feel stuck in the curriculum. Once Michelle discovered Code Ninjas and saw there were no locations in her area, she decided to open her own. She hopes the new Troy Code Ninjas will offer a safe space for children to learn how to code while building new friendships. Michelle plans to bring more Code Ninjas locations across the state of Michigan in the coming years. “I am thrilled to be opening my first Code Ninjas in Troy,” said Michelle Brown. “I firmly believe that access to technology education should be available to all children, beyond what their school district offers – if offered at all. After speaking with the Code Ninjas corporate team, I knew that Troy was the perfect community to benefit from this concept. Code Ninjas offers a fun, safe, and inspiring learning environment for children where gaming is celebrated, and I’ve seen first-hand new friendships form.” Children ages 7-14 can look forward to visiting the new Code Ninjas center to learn how to code in a fun, safe, and social learning environment where gaming is celebrated, and STEM is cool. Everything about Code Ninjas is built around fun, which keeps kids coming back. But the center also provides the results that parents are looking for, as their children gain coding and problem-solving skills they’ll need for the jobs of the future. At Code Ninjas, kids have fun and parents see results. Code Ninjas main program, CREATE, is a flexible afterschool and weekend drop-in program. There are also camps, birthday parties and Parents Night Out events, too. . To ensure the safety of all Ninjas, parents, and Senseis, Code Ninjas is taking extra precautions. The center is thoroughly cleaned routinely by employees. Devices, tables, door handles, bathrooms, and other frequently-used surfaces will be sanitized throughout the day. In addition, student workspaces and equipment, including computers, and mice are cleaned between every student session. There can be an increased distance between individual student workstations should parents request it in the dojo.
