50 years ago, in 1972, 5 men broke into the Democratic Headquarters at the Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C. President Nixon attempted to cover-up what he knew about that break-in and was facing impeachment for his attempts. Republicans in Congress, who had supported Nixon previously, informed him that they were going to vote to impeach him, forcing Nixon to resign. Republicans didn't attempt to sprinkle glitter on doggie doo like today's Republicans are attempting to do. They thought of the country first. How far the Republican Party has fallen in 50 years.… Very sad state of mis-affairs for my former political party. As a true conservative it horrifies me how far downward the GOP has fallen under the new management of the Trump MAGA folks. The GOP use to be a party that stood proud for truth, liberty, and democracy and now sadly it is the party of pro-Putin, autocratic rule, and the whim and pettiness of one old man, namely Trump. The GOP was the party of the Gipper and when I proudly voted for him we helped taken down the Soviet Union and brought down the Berlin Wall. Now the Trump MAGA folks are trying to take down NATO and the Ukraine and if asked by Trump would gladly fight side by side with the Russian against us and the Ukrainians. Very sad indeed and very un-American. Best thing that could happen to republicans: they get trounced in the midterms. This will force republicans to take a long, hard look in the mirror. The GOP is wrong on abortion, gun violence, climate science, immigration, and income equality. Nothing will make them change except a spanking in the polls.
